We all want to do the best that we can for our four-legged friends so they can be with us as long as possible. Although annual check-ups, vaccinations, good quality nutrition and certain preventative, anti-parasitic medications can go a long way toward keeping our pets healthy and happy, there are other ways we can ensure their well-being. One important additional step can be through Wellness testing.
What is Wellness Testing? In a nutshell, wellness testing involves running laboratory tests using blood and urine to assess your pet’s “inner” health. A physical examination can certainly help us to determine how healthy your pet is, but will not always tell us if there are early disease processes happening. Animals instinctively have a survival mechanism to try and mask signs of illness or pain until the disease can be quite advanced. Once in this advanced state it is much more difficult to achieve a positive result with treatment. If we can detect some of these diseases earlier we can help to manage your pet’s illness and guide you through whatever treatment options are available.
Remember the old adage: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!”
